Thousands of people enjoyed the Spanish Open 2016 in Sotogrande

Thousands of people have visited Sotogrande between last Thursday until Sunday, April 17. It has been four magical days in which we were able to enjoy the best European golf and the best sporting atmosphere in urbanization, during the Spanish Open 2016 Event at the Real Club de Golf de Valderrama.

The championship, entered in the European Tour was very intense due to the high quality of play and the harsh wind conditions. Among the TOP 20 participants were 7 English 5 Spaniards, three Danes, two Swedes and 2 French. The Englishman Andrew Johnston won the championship.

This 27 year old showed his consistency and reliability of game until the end, getting his first victory on the European Tour.

Johnston is ranked 233 in the World Ranking and experts did not see him with the title option. However, his perseverance, his harmonious swing, and above all, the few mistakes he did gave the victory in this championship with 285 strokes.

The second place went to the Dutchman Joost Luiten, who started as favourite, but could not overcome the playoff tiebreaker. The third place went to the most acclaimed, the Spanish Sergio Garcia. He had the support and affection of the public, as the circuit wore his name .

Best course in Europe

The celebration of this tournament was very special since it was held at Real Club de Golf Valderrama, which is rated among f the best golf courses in Europe.

It is the first Spanish course that has hosted four different tournaments in the European Tour: Open In Spain, Volvo Masters, WGC Cadillac and the Masters Andalucia.
